The all-inclusive Christ in Hebrews(1): the Son of God, the effulgence of His glory, and the Heir!

Our Christ is all-inclusive, and every positive thing in the universe points to Him as the reality! This week we are getting into the many aspects of the all-inclusive Christ as revealed in the Epistle to the Hebrews – a panoramic view of the All-Inclusive Christ in the Epistle to the Hebrews.

Today we specifically enjoyed three aspects of this all-inclusive Christ – Christ as the Son of God, Christ as the effulgence of God’s glory and the impress of His substance, and Christ as the Heir of all things (Heb. 1:1-3). These three aspects of the all-inclusive Christ are all seen in the first three verses of Hebrews, in the first chapter:

God, having spoken of old in many portions and in many ways to the fathers in the prophets, Has at the last of these days spoken to us in the Son, whom He appointed Heir of all things, through whom also He made the universe; Who, being the effulgence of His glory and the impress of His substance and upholding and bearing all things by the word of His power, …

  1. The all-inclusive Christ is the Son of God (Heb. 1:1; 4:14; 5:5; 7:3)! God became a man in the wonderful person of the Lord Jesus Christ, who is the Son of God! In the first verse of Hebrews we see the the Son of God, Christ, it the One through whom God speaks! Christ is not apart from God – just as you can’t separate the rays of the sun from the sun itself, you can’t separate the effulgence of God’s glory from God Himself: Christ is God Himself coming to man! Our Christ is God coming to us in the Son! Christ, the Son of God, is God Himself reaching us and coming into us! The main point about the all-inclusive Christ as the Son of God is that God speaks in the Son – to us, Christ it the mouthpiece of God, the oracle of God! Christ as the Son of God is God Himself speaking!
  2. The all-inclusive Christ – the Son of God – is the effulgence of God’s glory and the impress of His substance (Heb. 1:3)! God dwells in unapproachable light and cannot be touched / seen by man, but Christ as the effulgence of God’s glory – the “rays” coming out of the sun – came to express Him and glorify Him! When people saw Christ, they saw God! Now in the glory Christ as the Son is the shining, the brightness, of the Father’s glory. Just as the rays of the sun are the sun itself coming out, so Christ as the Son of God is God’s shining out and is one with God! The Son is the expression of God Himself – Christ the Son of God is God expressed, God glorified, God shining out! Also, Christ as the Son is the impress of His substance – just like the impress of a seal, the Son is the expression, the exact “impress” of what God is!
  3. The all-inclusive Christ is the Heir of all things (Heb. 1:2)! Through Christ all things were created, and also all were created for Him and unto Him! Christ has been appointed Heir of all things – He is the legal Heir, inheriting all things in God’s economy! All that God the Father is and has is Christ’s possession – as He declared in John 16:15. In the past Christ the Son was the Creator(Heb. 1:2; John 1:3; 1 Cor. 8:6); in the present Christ upholds and bears all things(Heb. 1:3), and in the future He will be the Heir who inherits all things(see. Rom. 8:16)! Since Christ created all things, He will inherit what He created. We are part of His creation – and part of His inheritance! Christ as the all-inclusive One is our inheritance, and we as His new creation are His inheritance!

Wow, what a Christ! I am looking forward to daily enjoy more and more of this Wonderful One – the all-inclusive Christ as revealed in Hebrews! The above three aspects are just a little appetizer of what Christ is to us – He is SO MUCH!

We just want to enjoy Him as the Son of God speaking God to us today, the effulgence of God’s glory and the impress of His substance, and as the Heir of all things! How we love Him and appreciate Him as such a One! [sharing inspired from, The Conclusion of the New Testament (bro. Witness Lee) as quoted in the HWMR on, The Central Line of the Bible]

Lord, continue to unveil us to see You as the all-inclusive One! We want to lift up our eyes from ourselves, our own situation, our own things, and look away unto Jesus! Thank You Lord for coming to us as the Son of God! You are the speaking of God – God coming to us in the Son! You are the effulgence of God’s glory – God shining out and reaching us! What a Christ! You are the impress of God’s substance! Lord, we love You! We are Your inheritance – You are the Heir of all things!
