As Children of Light we are Light in the Lord and Walk in the Light expressing God

But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from every sin. 1 John 1:7

We were once darkness but are now light in the Lord, so we need to walk as children of light; we need to walk in the light even as the Lord is in the light, bear the fruit of the light, and have God as our expression in our daily living. Amen!

May we see that we believers in Christ are children of God, and as such ones, we need to walk in love and light, because God is love and light. We are born of God – we are God-men, human beings who possess the life and nature of God and belong to the species of God.

This is indeed the greatest wonder in the universe, that we human beings can be begotten of God and that sinners can be made children of God! Amen!

We may not realise what we are and who we are today, but we know that God is in us, for God in Christ as the Spirit came into our spirit to regenerate us, and now He is growing in us.

We have been born of God, and now we have the divine life and nature of God. As such ones, as children of God, we can be imitators of God; we can imitate God because we can live by His life and nature, and He can be expressed through us.

Day by day, we can and should know and experience God as love and light. As we know God as such a One and experience Him as love and light, we will also walk in love and light.

On one hand, we enjoy God in Christ as grace and truth, for the love of God is expressed through the grace of Christ, and the light of God shines through the truth. On the other hand, as we enjoy Christ as grace and truth, we are brought deeper into God to know Him as love and light.

We will walk in love and light, which is deeper and more tender than living according to truth and grace. To walk in love is to walk in intimacy with God, to care for what God cares, and to live intimately in His love.

The goal of the book of Ephesians is to bring us into love as the inner substance of God; when we are in love, in the divine love, enjoying the sweetness of the divine love, we will love others even as Christ did.

In such a condition and atmosphere of love, we’re saturated with God to be holy and without blemish before Him.

Oh, the love of God in Christ is immeasurable and surpasses every knowledge, but we can know it by experiencing it!

May we see that, as those who have been regenerated by God to become part of His species, we should walk in love and even become love, becoming the same as God is as love, for we are His children!

Today we want to see what it means for us to walk in the light; we are children of light, we need to be in the light, walk in the light, and bear the fruit of the light.

We are Children of Light, even Light in the Lord, and we should Walk in the Light

For you were once darkness but are now light in the Lord; walk as children of light. Eph. 5:8

Ephesians 5:8 tells us that we believers in Christ were once darkness but are now light in the Lord, so we should walk as children of light. We were not just in darkness; we were darkness. Now we are not just in the light but even more, we are light in the Lord. Amen!

As God is light, so we as children of God are children of light (1 John 1:5; Eph. 5:8; John 12:36). God is light and in Him is no darkness at all; we are now children of God, and we walk as children of light.

We have Christ as light within us, and we believe into the light; we are sons of light. We are not only children of light – we are light itself; we are light because we are one with God in the Lord (Matt. 5:14; 1 John 1:5).

And this is the message which we have heard from Him and announce to you, that God is light and in Him is no darkness at all...But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from every sin. 1 John 1:5, 7The Lord Jesus told us that we are the light of the world, for we believe into Him and have Him as light in us. However, we are not light in the Lord when we live in the flesh, according to our natural concepts, or when we express the self.

It is only when we walk in the light as children of light that we are light in the Lord, even the light of the world.

What does it mean to walk in the light? How can we believers in Christ walk in the light? How can we walk in the light habitually?

The word for “walk” in 1 John 1:7 is a habitual walk, something that we do habitually and not only from time to time.

We need to habitually walk in the light, even as the Lord is in the light and God is light. When we are in the light and walk in the light, we are outside of the realm of right and wrong.

Many times, we believers in Christ fall into the realm of right and wrong; when we don’t exercise our spirit to live one with the Lord and walk in the light, we “manufacture our own light” and live according to the tree of knowledge of good and evil.

But when we walk in the light, as the Lord is in the light, we are children of light, and we are outside of the realm of right and wrong.

God’s intention for us today is to walk in the light as children of light, that is, to live according to the principle of the tree of life, not according to the principle of knowledge of good and evil.

Man, however, from the very beginning, chose the wrong source; the woman was enticed and deceived by Satan, the serpent, and the man followed her in eating from the wrong tree.

So many Christians today live in the realm of doing the right thing and rejecting the wrong thing, and they want to be good and not evil.

How about us today in our daily Christian experience, do we walk in the light, taking the tree of life as the principle of our daily living?

We need to grow in life unto maturity and enjoy the Lord to the extent that we choose life and not death, and we walk in the light habitually.

When we argue with our spouse, we are strong to impose our point of view because we think and know we are right.

But if we have the feeling that we are mistaken and we are not right in our being, we will not debate or argue.

While you have the light, believe into the light, so that you may become sons of light...John 12:36 You are the light of the world. It is impossible for a city situated upon a mountain to be hidden. Matt. 5:14This involves a deep aspect of our personal relationship with the Lord. We need to ask the Lord to help us live in the realm of the tree of life, taking Him as our life and living one with Him so that we may live in the light, even as He is in the light.

When we habitually live in the light, even our reaction to other people, to things, and to events taking place around us will express the Lord.

The Lord is concerned with our being; He doesn’t want us to merely do the right thing or say the right words but that we would walk in the light, taking the tree of life as the principle of our daily living.

So He arranges all persons, matters, and things around us to expose us how much we still live in the darkness of our human concepts and how much we think we are right. Oh Lord Jesus!

The Lord is in a different realm, not in the realm of right or wrong but in the light! He came into us as light, and He is making us light in the Lord.

May we keep turning to the Lord, apply His precious blood whenever we sin, and go on with Him in the light.

May we care more for being in the light, living according to the principle of depending on the Lord, than for being right and doing the right thing.

We need to have many direct and genuine prayers to the Lord, asking Him to keep us in the light, bring our whole being in the light, and cause us to live according to the principle of the tree of life.

Lord Jesus, we love You and we want to walk in the light today! Praise the Lord, we are now light in the Lord, and we can walk in the light! Hallelujah, God is light, and we as children of God are children of light. We open to You today, dear Lord. We open to enjoy You and partake of You. We allow You to shine in our being. Save us from living according to the principle of right and wrong. Save us from living according to the tree of knowledge of good and evil. Oh Lord, bring our whole being in the light. May we see that we are children of light and we should walk in the light. May we realise that we are light itself, for we are one with God in the Lord! Hallelujah, we who believe into the Lord Jesus and who have Christ as light in us are light in the Lord, and we are the light of the world! Amen, Lord, may we live and walk in the light today! May we live according to the principle of the tree of life today!

Walk as Children of Light to have the Fruit of Light and to have God Expressed in our Living

For the fruit of the light [consists] in all goodness and righteousness and truth. Eph. 5:9

When we children of light walk in the light, we have the fruit of the light (Eph. 5:9). After Paul commands us to walk as children of light (v. 8) he said that the fruit of the light consists in all goodness and righteousness and truth (v. 9).

When we believers in Christ walk as children of light, we will have a certain expression – goodness, righteousness, and truth.

The nature of the fruit of light is goodness. The way or procedure by which the fruit of the light is produced is righteousness. The reality, the real expression of the fruit of the light, is truth.

If we walk in the light as children of light, we will bear fruit. The fruit of the light must be good in nature, righteous in procedure, and real in expression, so that God may be expressed as the reality of our daily walk.

This means that, as we walk in the light as children of light, God is expressed through us; He is expressed in our daily living.

It is very significant that in speaking of the fruit of the light, Paul mentions only three things: goodness, righteousness, and truth.

These refer to the Triune God, being the expression of the Triune God in our daily living.

The fact that there is a fruit as we walk in the light shows that this is organic; it is the organic result of our living in the light. It is not the work of the light, nor is it the conduct of the light; it is the fruit of the light.

When we walk in the light, we have goodness, righteousness, and truth. Goodness denotes God the Father and refers to God the Father, the only One who is good (Matt. 19:17).

None of us is good; only God the Father is good, and our expression will be goodness when we walk in the light. The nature of the fruit of the light is God the Father.

The procedure by which the fruit of the light is produced is righteousness. Christ is God’s righteousness. He came to produce certain things according to God’s righteousness, and He fulfilled all righteousness (Rom. 5:17-18, 21).

God has a way, a procedure, by which He does all things; this is righteousness. The fruit of the light in its procedure is righteousness, referring to God the Son.

The truth is the expression of the fruit of the light; the fruit of the light must be real, that is, it must be the expression of God, the shining of the hidden light.

And He said to him, Why do you ask Me concerning what is good? There is [only] One [who is] good...Matt. 19:17 In order that just as sin reigned in death, so also grace might reign through righteousness unto eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. Rom. 5:21 But when He, the Spirit of reality, comes, He will guide you into all the reality...John 16:13If we walk in the light as children of light, there’s a particular expression – God is shining in us and through us, and we walk in truth.

Truth refers to the Spirit of truth, the Spirit of reality, the third of the Triune God (John 14:17; 16:13). How wonderful!

If we realise who we are as believers in Christ, if we see that we are children of the light, even light itself, we will walk in the light, and there will be a particular fruit that we bear – the fruit of the light.

The fruit of the light is the expression of God in our living, for the Father as goodness is expressed through us, the Son as righteousness is lived out in us, and the Spirit as truth is manifested in us. May we walk as children of light to bear the fruit of light today.

The proof that we are walking as children of light is seen in the bearing of the fruit of the light. May we habitually walk in the light today.

In this age, we walk in the light; in the next age, the light will be intensified, and for eternity in the new heaven and new earth, the New Jerusalem will be the expression of God as light.

Revelation 21:23 tells us that the city of New Jerusalem has no need of the sun or the moon that they should shine in the new heaven and new earth, for the glory of God illumines it through Christ as the lamp and the New Jerusalem as the diffuser.

Wow, we are becoming part of the corporate expression of God as the light in and as the New Jerusalem!

Lord Jesus, we want to walk in the light as children of light to bear the fruit of the light. Keep us in the light today. We want to walk in the light so that we may bear the fruit of the light, which is good in nature, righteous in procedure, and real in expression! Amen, Lord, may God be expressed as the reality of our daily walk! Keep us open to You today. Shine in us and shine through us. Expose and remove any darkness and deal with any dark part in our being. Oh Lord, may God the Father as goodness be expressed in our daily living. May Christ as righteousness be lived out in us so that we may do things in God’s way according to His righteous procedure. May the Spirit of reality be manifested through us and guide us our daily living as we walk in the light and therefore walk in truth. Oh Lord, gain the fruit of light in us, in our daily living! Be expressed through us today and every day! May we remain in the light, walk in the light, and be one with You in the light until we become the New Jerusalem, the expression of God as the light in Christ as the lamp!

It is rather difficult to point out the difference between truth and light. In our experience we may often realize God as truth to us, as our reality. But sometimes when we get into God’s presence, we sense that we are in the light. At such times, we are not only experiencing reality, but we are in the very light itself. Thus, the experience of light is deeper than the experience of truth. We should not simply be according to reality and by grace but in love and under light. Walking in love and in light is deeper and more tender than living according to reality and by grace. After commanding us to walk as children of light, Paul inserts…a parenthetical statement [in Ephesians 5:9] regarding the fruit of the light… Goodness is the nature of the fruit of the light; righteousness is the way or the procedure by which the fruit of the light is produced; and the truth is the reality, the real expression of the fruit of the light. This expression is God Himself. The fruit of the light must be good in nature, righteous in procedure, and real in expression, that God may be expressed as the reality of our daily walk.

Ameeen!!!!

For we were once darkness but are now light in the Lord. So we walk as children of light.

As we walk in the light as God is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from every sin.

This is wonderful! We have fellowship not only with God but with one another. And we also obtain the cleansing by the blood of Jesus.

Eventually, our walk will bring forth fruit which consists in all goodness and righteousness and truth, the triune God expressed.

Lor,d keep us in the light and in the fellowship of life to walk in the light to bring forth fruit of the light.

As children of light who are now light in the Lord, to be sons of light, we need to walk in the light with the God the Father as our goodness, God the Son, Christ, as our richness and God the Spirit as our reality that we may express the Triune God in our daily walk!

Lord, we want to walk in the light to be good in nature, righteous in procedure and real in expression that we may have fellowship with one another! Amen! Lord rescue us from any darkness that You would be the reality in our daily walk as children of God in the light!

Walking in love & light is deeper and more tender than walking in grace & truth.

Goodness is the nature of the fruit of the light; righteousness is the way/procedure by which the fruit of the light is produced; and truth is the reality, the real expression, of the fruit of the light.

If we walk as children of light, we will express the Father as the goodness of Triune God’s nature, the Son as the righteousness, and the Spirit as the truth.

The fruit we bear by walking as children of light must be in goodness, righteousness and truth.

The proof that we are walking as children of light is seen in the bearing of such fruit. Amen. Shine on us Lord Jesus.

In the Old Testament, God was shrouded in darkness. He was in the Holy of Holies, and man could not see Him. In the Holy Place there was a lamp, and in the outer court there was the sun, but in the Holy of Holies, there was no light at all. God was an unknown God there. Man could only make conjectures about Him. But thank the Lord that today God has been manifested in Jesus of Nazareth. God is now in the light; He is no longer in darkness. Today God is a known God, a revealed God. When you see God today, you know that He is God. The gospel concerning Jesus of Nazareth is the revelation of God. The shining out of the light of the gospel is the shining out of God. When the light of the gospel shines out, we see God. I am not saying that we should not be holy or that we should not reject sin. I am saying that this verse tells us that as God is in the light, we should therefore walk in the light. As God has manifested Himself in the light of the gospel, even so we should see God in the light of the gospel. We no longer look for God in the Old Testament. Today God has manifested Himself. If He had not manifested Himself, we would be hopeless. If He had not manifested Himself, we would still be bewildered, not knowing what kind of God He is. We would still have to make conjectures about Him. Thank God that He has been manifested. Today our God is no longer a “backstage” God. He is now the “onstage” God, the revealed God. The word revelation is apocalypsis in Greek. Apo means away, and calypsis means veil. Hence, apocalypsis means the taking away of a veil. I used to watch theater performances. Onstage there is always a thick curtain. You do not know what is behind the curtain. An apocalypsis is the opening up of the curtain.

The proof that we are walking as children of light (1 John 1:7) is seen in the bearing of the fruit of light (Eph. 5:9).

Such fruit of light we bear must be good in nature (the Father’s nature), righteous in procedure (the Son’s righteousness), and real in expression, that God may be expressed as the reality of our daily walk (the shining of the Spirit). This expression is God Himself!

Hallelujah, as children of God, we can walk and exhibit the divine light as an expressive attribute of God in our living!

Lord, make this in Your children, our daily reality! Amen, brother, may we walk and bear fruit according to the Father’s love and light!

We walk in the light, but God is in the light because He is light. “The light is the element in which God dwells: compare 1 Tim. 6:16….this walking in the light, as He is in the light, is no mere imitation of God, but is an identity in the essential element of our daily walk with the essential element of God’s eternal being: not imitation, but coincidence and identity of the very atmosphere of life” (Alford). 1 John 1:7 footnote 1, is in the light.

When we walk and live in the light of God, we have the joint enjoyment of the Triune God and the joint participation in His divine purpose. The fellowship of the divine life brings us the divine light, and the divine light keeps us in the fellowship, that is, in the joint enjoyment of God and the joint participation in His purpose. 1 John 1:7 footnote 2 on, have fellowship.
