We believers in Christ are not in the flesh but in the spirit if the Spirit of God dwells in us; if we allow the Spirit of the Triune God to make His home in us, then in our experience we are in the spirit and no longer in the flesh! Hallelujah!
Thank the Lord that the Spirit came into our spirit to regenerate us by imparting God’s life into us, and now the Spirit of the Triune God dwells in us! Amen!
May we discover, appreciate, and remain in the indwelling of the Spirit in our spirit so that we may be in spirit, not in the flesh. What God wants is to gain people who are in their mingled spirit, persons of the tree of life.
We human beings are like a glove, created by God in His image and according to His likeness, and He Himself is the hand coming into the glove to fill us and be our content.
We are God’s glove; without God as our content, we are empty, but if we have God filling us and being our content, we are full of meaning.
This is why God placed man in front of two trees in the garden of Eden; He didn’t put man merely in front of many trees in the garden, but He mainly pointed out two trees – the tree of life and the tree of knowledge.
When man eats the tree of life, he receives God as his content, and the glove has the hand within it, being filled with the content and having meaning.
This is what we are today: we believers in Christ have God in Christ as the Spirit as our content, and we partake of the tree of life, even depend on the tree of life, so that we may express God!
What a pity, however, that Adam partook of the wrong tree, being deceived by Satan to doubt God and disobey Him.
After man partook of the tree of knowledge, he became a man of knowledge. These past six thousand years, man was living in the realm of knowledge, the realm of death; he simply tried his best to choose the good and reject the evil.
Sadly, even many believers in Christ live according to this principle today – they choose to do the good and do not do the evil. Oh Lord!
May we be brought back to the tree of life today! May we be brought to Christ as our life and life supply, and may we depend on Christ in all things in our daily living!
As the church, we are the Body of Christ, and together we learn to take Christ as our life and person so that we may grow in life and become His corporate expression.
Romans 8 in particular, as the focus of the Bible and the center of the universe, shows us how God came to be our life, live in us, and dispense His life not only into our spirit but also into every part of our being to make us men of life, even to gain a corporate expression for Himself in humanity! Hallelujah!
We are Not in the Flesh but in the Spirit, if Indeed the Spirit of God Dwells in us
The first part of verse 9 in Romans 8 says, You are not in the flesh, but in the spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you.
Before this verse, Paul spoke a lot about the flesh, especially in chapter 7. He said that the flesh is enmity against God (v. 7), it is not subject to the law of God, and neither can it be. The flesh cannot please God.
There is a fourfold condemnation on the flesh, for the flesh is at enmity with God. The flesh is not subject to the law of God and cannot be subject to the law of God; the flesh cannot please God, and the flesh is hopeless.
We should never set our hope on our flesh anymore. We shouldn’t think that, now that we are saved and we believe into the Lord, our flesh will become better. Even until the Lord comes, our flesh will still be our flesh; it will never improve.
Only when the Lord, through His salvation in life, will glorify us, only then will our body be transfigured, and the flesh will be no more. Before then, we still have the problem of the flesh, for the flesh is with us.
For example, we may enjoy the Lord in His word in the morning, but then we have breakfast with our family or we interact with our spouse and children, and something they say stirs us up and causes us to speak in the flesh.
They may say something to us and we may just react, responding in the flesh. When we wake up in the morning, we are already in the flesh, but when we contact the Lord in His word, we turn to our spirit and are in the spirit.
But when we talk to others, something they say may stir up our flesh, and we just react. We have an exchange of words, simply responding to what they say to us. Oh Lord!
Our flesh is truly hopeless, and whenever we our mind is set on the flesh, we are in death.
Especially since we have a heart for the Lord and we want to live one spirit with Him, seeking Him and doing our best to live before Him, the flesh is being exposed as being hopeless and incurable.
So we repent many times for being in the flesh. May we realise that we are not in the flesh but in the spirit if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in us. We do not need to remain in the flesh.
We do not need to be in the flesh or live in the flesh. Whenever we sense the flesh rising up and being expressed, we need to turn to our spirit and be in the spirit.
This sounds so simple, and it is so encouraging, but it is not easy to practice in our daily experience. If the Spirit of God is in us, we are not in the flesh; spontaneously, we are not in the flesh.
But how come that, even though the Spirit is in us, our flesh is still so active? Oh Lord!
May we see that the Triune God – the Father (Rom. 8:15), the Son (vv. 3, 29, 32), and the Spirit (vv. 9, 11, 13-14, 16, 23, 26)—dispenses Himself as life (vv. 2, 6, 10, 11) into us, the tripartite men—spirit, soul, and body—to make us His sons (vv. 14-15, 19, 23, 29, 17) for the constituting of the Body of Christ (12:4-5). Hallelujah!
This is what the book of Romans reveals! This book is the Gospel of God, showing us that God makes sinners the children of God to constitute the Body of Christ manifested in the local churches.
He not only justifies us and reconciles sus to God but even more, regenerates us with His life to make us children of God for the constituting of the Body of Christ.
Now Christ is in us, for He as the Spirit is in us, and we are no longer in the flesh but in the spirit! It is good to come to the Lord in this respect and tell Him,
Lord Jesus, thank You for coming in us to dwell in us and live in us. Hallelujah, we are no longer in the flesh but in the spirit because the Spirit of God dwells in us! Praise the Lord, the Spirit of God dwells in us today! Amen, Lord, we love Your indwelling! We love You as the Spirit dwelling in us to impart God as life to every part of our being! Hallelujah, the Father, the Son, and the Spirit dispenses Himself as life into us to make us sons of God for the constituting of the Body of Christ! Oh Lord, keep us turning to You! Save us from living in the flesh. May we turn to our spirit whenever we sense we are in the flesh! We love You, Lord! We love You as the indwelling Spirit! We choose to set our mind on our spirit today. May Your life spread from our spirit into our mind, emotion, and will. May we remain one spirit with You today! Oh Lord, we treasure and love Your indwelling! Live in us today!
We’re in the spirit when we Allow the Spirit of the Triune God to make His Home in us
We all have wondered the same question: if Christ as the Spirit is in us, why do we still live in the flesh so much? If the Lord as the life-giving Spirit dwells in our spirit, how come we still live in the flesh?
Rom. 8:9 tells us not only that the Spirit is in us but that He dwells in us. The Spirit not only is in us or lives in us but also dwells in us, that is, the Spirit of the Triune God is making His home in us.
Christ is the Spirit, the Spirit is of Christ, and the Spirit is the Spirit of the Triune God; He is in us, and He is making His home in all our being.
In order for us not to be in the flesh but in the spirit, we need to allow the Spirit of the Triune God to make His home in us. We shouldn’t treat Him only as a guest, as if He is visiting within our being, yet having no permission to change things around and reconstitute us.
We need to open to the Lord and allow Him as the Spirit of the Triune God to make His home in our whole being.
When we do this, when the Spirit dwells in us, the righteous requirement of the law will spontaneously and effortlessly be fulfilled in us, for we walk not according to the flesh but according to the spirit (Rom. 8:4).
If we allow the Spirit of the Triune God to make His home in us, then in our experience, we are in the spirit and are no longer in the flesh. This is the secret: we need to allow the Spirit to dwell in us.
In ourselves, we are not able to keep the requirements of the law; instead of trying to do it, we should simply walk according to the spirit.
When we walk according to the spirit, the righteous requirement of the law is spontaneously fulfilled in us, for the Spirit of the Triune God will live in us and express God through us.
Thank the Lord, we are not in the flesh but in the spirit, for the Spirit of God dwells in us!
May we allow Him to dwell in us. May He have the freedom to make His home in us, reside in us, and settle down in our being.
So many times, the Lord as the Spirit of the Triune God, is in us and speaks to us, rebukes us, stops us, and bothers us, for He disagrees with our attitude, our words, our actions, and so many things related to us.
If we just listen to Him and allow Him, even give Him the ground to speak to us and regulate us from within, the Spirit of the Triune God will have a way to make His home in us, and we will be in the spirit, no longer in the flesh.
Oh, we believers in Christ are in the spirit and not in the flesh, for the Spirit of the Triune God dwells in us! May we no longer be cheated by the enemy but believe the word of God!
When we sense we’re in the flesh, when we have the feeling that there’s death by our living, actions, and speaking, may we simply turn to our spirit! May we no longer bemoan the fact that we’re so fleshly but rather, refuse to believe this lie of the enemy and turn to our spirit!
We believe the word of God and not our feelings or anything in the outward environment.
When we are about to have an exchange of words with our wife, when we sense that we’re about to argue with someone because of what they just said to us, we need to remember that the Spirit of the Triune God dwells in us, and we want Him to make His home in us.
May we keep turning to our spirit day by day until we are fully in our spirit and no more in the flesh!
Christ dwells in us as the Spirit. His dwelling is His making His home in us (Eph. 3:17). He may not like certain things in our being, He may disagree with certain thoughts and opinions, and He may not like how we deal with a situation or how we speak with someone.
We sense His indwelling by turning to our spirit. May we keep turning to our spirit, setting our mind on our spirit (Rom. 8:6).
When we go somewhere to buy something, when we look at some things and consider them, or when we take care of personal things, we need to contact the Lord, enjoy Him, and allow the Spirit of the Triune God to make His home in us.
We need to let Him adjust us in our mind, emotions, and will. We need to let Him be involved in our decisions and in the things we are about to do. May we just allow the Spirit of the Triune God to dwell in us.
Thank the Lord that Christ is in us and, even though the body is dead because of sin, the spirit is life because of righteousness (Rom. 8:10). Our spirit is life! When we turn to our spirit, we enjoy God as life!
The Spirit of the Triune God is with our spirit, dwelling in our spirit, and He wants to spread in our soul, even in every part of our inner being.
When we allow Him to spread and make His home in us, we will be in the spirit, no longer in the flesh.
If we allow the Spirit of the Triune God to dwell in us by making His home in us, the Triune God as the Spirit will spread from our spirit (Rom. 8:10) into all the parts of our soul (beginning with our mind, (v. 6) and even He will give life to our mortal body (v. 11). Hallelujah!
Lord Jesus, we praise You that we are in the spirit and not in the flesh, for the Spirit of God dwells in us! Hallelujah, Christ is in us, and even though the body is dead because of sin, the spirit is life because of righteousness! Praise the Lord, our spirit is life, for the Triune God in Christ as the Spirit dwells in our spirit! Amen, Lord, we turn to our spirit right now. We do not want to remain in the flesh or pay attention to the flesh: we simply turn to our spirit! May the Spirit of the Triune God dwell in us. Amen, Lord, we allow You as the Spirit to make Your home in us. Make Your home in every part of our being by spreading in our mind, emotion, and will. Saturate us and permeate us with Yourself. Live in us today. Have the freedom to adjust our mind, emotion, and will. Oh Lord, we want to allow the Spirit of the Triune God to make His home in us so that we may be in the spirit and no longer in the flesh! Amen, may the Triune God as the Spirit be able to spread from our spirit into our soul and even to our body!

Rom. 8:9, footnote 2 on, Dwells in you, Recovery Version Bible
We must believe the word of God which says that we are not in the flesh but in the spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in us.
May we allow the Spirit of the Triune God to dwell in us and make His home in us so that we may be and live in the spirit, not in the flesh.
Dear brother, we need to declare boldly, according the word of the Bible, that we are not in the flesh but in the spirit.
Yet, in our experience we need to allow the Spirit of the Triune God to dwell in us, to make His home in us – to give Him the adequate room to reside in us to be in spirit!
Amen, hallelujah! Christ, such a wonderful person is in us!
We are no longer in the flesh because the spirit dwells in us.
Amen brother
We have the Spirit of Christ in us. We are part of Christ!!!
Amen brother. Only the word of the Bible is reality.
The righteous requirement of law isn’t kept by us through our outward endeavouring but is spontaneously & even subconsciously fulfilled in us by the inward working of the Spirit of life.
We need to allow the Spirit of the Triune God to make His home in us.
If the Spirit doesn’t make home in us, we will be very much in the flesh.
If we allow the Triune God to make home in us, our experience will be in the spirit.
Brother, “You are not in the flesh, but in the spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you.”
This is the reliable word of the Bible, Amen! We should not allow the enemy to cheat us. Hallelujah! We are no longer in the flesh because the Spirit of God dwells in us.
This is the indwelling of Christ. It is only the indwelling Christ that causes us to be no more in the flesh. Hallelujah Christ is in us!
We should allow the Spirit of the Triune God to make His home in us, that is, to settle Himself in us with adequate room, so that He may take full possession of our inner being so that our experiences may be in the spirit not in the flesh.
Hallelujah, we are not in the flesh, but in the spirit. We exercise our spirit of faith to believe in God’s word!
We should no longer allow the enemy to cheat us. Indeed the Spirit of God not only abiding in us but dwelling in us.
For this to be our reality in our experience and living we need to walk according to the mingled spirit, have our being in the spirit, to have our mind in the spirit, and mind the things of the Spirit.

The entire story of Exodus can be encapsulated in Ephesians chapter 2.
Ephesians 2:5 — “Even when we were dead in offenses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved)” — corresponds to the Israelites’ experience of applying the lamb’s blood to the doorposts and partake of its flesh. This resulted in the Spirit of God dwelling in us.
Ephesians 2:6 — “And raised us up together with Him and seated us together with Him in the heavenlies in Christ Jesus” — parallels their exodus from Egypt and the crossing of the Red Sea (crucified and resurrected with Christ). This results in our being in the spirit.
So technically, the Spirit first enters into us through regeneration, then we enter into the mingled spirit to live and walk in resurrection.
Eph. 3:17
17 That Christ may make His home in your hearts THROUGH FAITH, that you, being ROOTED and GROUNDED IN LOVE,
“…Romans 8:9 speaks concerning the indwelling Spirit: “You are not in the flesh, but in the spirit, IF INDEED the Spirit of God dwells in you.”…” brother Lee
“…We should allow this Spirit of the Triune God to MAKE HIS HOME IN US, that is, to SETTLE HIMSELF IN US with adequate room, so that He may take full possession of our inner being… IF THE SPIRIT DOES NOT MAKE HIS HOME IN US, we may be very much in the flesh…” brother Lee
If we truly have the Spirit of life dwelling in us, then we truly belong to Christ. And if we belong to Him, we have access to all His fullness, everything He is, everything He has, and all He has accomplished, it’s all in us. Hallelujah! We possess all His riches as the result and issue of our enjoyment.
But the real question is: Are we giving Him enough room to genuinely enjoy all that He is within us?
“…The Spirit of God is in us, YET IF WE DO not give Him the liberty to make His home in us, HE WILL BE UNABLE TO DWELL IN US…” brother Lee
Ephesians 3:17 tells us that Christ wants to make His home in our hearts, not just visit or stay for a few days like a guest. He desires to take full possession of our inner being. This speaks of a deep, growing relationship, where Christ doesn’t remain on the surface but settles down and spreads into every part of who we are. He is already in our spirit (that’s where we received Him) but we must also understand, believe, and fully accept that He longs to occupy our heart. For this to happen, we need to make room for Him by EMPTYING OUR hearts of ALL the issues of life that have accumulated there.
Some things are so deeply rooted in our heart that we may not even know they’re there until pressure or trials bring them to the surface. These hidden matters can greatly hinder our church life and inward growth. We MUST LET THE LORD SHINE ON THEM and DEAL WITH THEM. We need to face what’s buried within and LET HIM CLEANSE OUR heart, REMOVING EVERY HINDRANCE. Until our heart is clear, clean, and emptied, we will struggle to enjoy the riches of Christ. OUR FAITH, who is Christ Himself, WILL HAVE NO ROOM to grow. Even if we are filled with objective knowledge, WITHOUT THE SUBJECTIVE EXPERIENCE OF CHRIST IN OUR heart, veils will remain, and THE INWARD REALITY WILL STILL BE LACKING.
“…BUT if the Spirit MAKES HIS HOME IN US and TAKES FULL POSSESSION of OUR INNER BEING, WE WILL BE IN THE SPIRIT.”
Amen!
