Enjoying God as our Portion in His Living Word: God in Christ is Everything to us!

Through the function of the Word of God, God’s loving seekers receive the blessing of enjoying God as their portion.

What the Word of God in the Bible is to us depends on what our attitude, condition, and heart we have when we come to it; if we come to get more knowledge and doctrines, the Bible is a book full of spiritual things and stories and prophecies, but if we come to the word of God with a pure heart as God’s loving seekers, the Bible will be the living word of God as a blessing to us.

There are many blessings that the function of the word of God brings to us as God’s loving seekers. First of all, the function of the word of God is to bring us the divine light which becomes life in us; when we come to God’s word as His loving seekers, He shines on us and His life is imparted into us.

When we come to the word of God as loving seekers of God, we enjoy the blessing of being watered by God and absorbing God with all His unsearchable riches.

Furthermore, when we pray over God’s word through the exercise of our spirit and with a heart turned to the Lord, we breathe in the breathed out word of God, thus receiving God’s element as the Spirit. God in Christ as the Spirit is embodied in His word; when we pray-read the word of God, we inhale God as the holy and living breath, and we live because of Him. How wonderful!

Today we want to see even more that, if we come to the word of God as His loving seekers, we enjoy God Himself as our portion! In His word God is everything to us, and when we pray-read His word and contact the Lord, He becomes whatever we need as our daily supply.

God doesn’t give us “things” such as life, light, holiness, joy, peace, living water, living food, living air, etc; God gives Himself to us as our everything, and He is the reality of our food, our drink, our air, our peace, our joy, and everything we need.

Enjoying God as our Portion in His Living Word: God in Christ is Everything to us!

Psa. 73:26 My flesh and my heart fail, but God is the rock of my heart and my portion forever.Through the function of the Word of God, we as God’s loving seekers receive the blessing of enjoying God as our portion. When we come to the word of God as loving seekers of God, we are blessed with God as our everything. In the Bible we clearly see that God in Christ is our portion through His word (Psa. 119:57; 73:26).

Satan is working 24/7 to distract us from taking Christ as our portion, bringing in many replacements of Christ; but when we spend time with the Lord in His word with a pure heart and an exercised spirit, we have the privilege of enjoying God as our portion.

Through the function of the word of God, we as God’s loving seekers can enjoy Him as our joy, peace, rest, righteousness, goodness, holiness, food and drink, new moon, Sabbath, holiday, and everything. God is our portion forever, and He has qualified us for a share of the allotted portion of the saints in the light – which is Christ (Col. 1:12).

The highest blessing is the enjoyment of God Himself as our portion (see Num. 6:22-27). The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit is with us to be our enjoyment and experience all the time (2 Cor. 13:14).

In the Old Testament the Psalmists enjoyed God as their portion through His word; they discovered the way to take God’s word in so that God would be their portion – He was their refuge, comfort, hope, hiding place, high tower, rock of salvation, sweet food, water, light, home, and everything.

It is a very great matter for us as believers to enjoy God as our portion in His word. What God gives us is not “things” such as love, peace, joy, comfort, etc apart from Himself; He gives Himself to us through His word to be our light, life, peace, joy, and everything.

By contacting the Word in a proper way, we receive the Lord Himself as our portion; when we exercise our spirit to enjoy the Lord in His word, we enjoy God as the divine light, divine life, living water, holy breath, rich soil with many nutrients, our salvation, food and drink, comfort, covering, and protection.

When we have God as our portion, we have God as everything to us. When we enjoy God as our portion in His living word, we have Him as everything to us; whatever we need, He is, and He is super-abundantly more than what we can ask for or think.

He is our joy, our peace, our rest, and everything is in Him! Every time we are in the word of God as God’s loving seekers we receive grace upon grace – we receive the all-inclusive Christ as our portion.

As long as we have God as our portion, we have everything; all the blessings we receive from the living word of God bring us to the Lord Himself, and when we come to the Lord in His word, we receive God as our portion (John 6:39-40).

Lord Jesus, thank You for being everything to us as our portion in and through Your living word. We want to be those who enjoy the highest blessing – the enjoyment of God Himself as our portion! Lord, we come to Your word as Your loving seekers to enjoy You, contact You, and draw near to You; bring us into the full enjoyment of Christ as our God-allotted portion! You are our peace, our joy, our rest, our drink, our food, our hiding place, our protection, our life, our holiness, our righteousness, our goodness, and everything to us!

How the Author of the Bible can become our Portion in a Real, Present, and Enjoyable way

The more we come to the Bible in the proper way, the more the Author of this book — God Himself — becomes our portion. God can be our portion because in the Word, by the Word, and through the Word He is real, present, practical, enjoyable, and available to us. Crystallization-Study of Exodus (2), msg. 4No other book in the world promises that the author of the book is the portion of the reader; a book may convey the thought or feeling of the author, but no book “imparts the author” into its reader.

The Bible is the unique book in the world that promises to impart its author – God – into its readers. If we come to the word of God with a proper attitude, we receive the Person who inspired and wrote the Bible into us.

No textbook can do that; no philosophical or psychological books can impart the author into the reader, but the Bible as the Word of God imparts its Author into its readers to be their portion. The more we come to the Word of God in the right way, the more the Author of this book – God Himself – becomes our portion.

This is the most intrinsic function of the word of God – it imparts God into man. When we come to the Bible with a pure heart and an exercised spirit, we enjoy the Author of the Bible as our portion (Psa. 73:26).

However, many believers read the Bible as they would read a textbook, not being willing to come to the Lord as they read the word; for them many times God is not real, present, practical, enjoyable, and available.

Psa. 119:103 How sweet are Your words to my taste! Sweeter than honey to my mouth! We need to come to the Word of God with a heart that loves Him and seeks Him, and God will be our portion because in the Word, by the Word, and through the Word God is real, present, practical, enjoyable, and available to us (Psa. 119:103; 34:8).

In the Word and through the Word we can enjoy God, taste God, be infused with God, and receive God as our portion (1 Pet. 2:2-3).

To many Jews, Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists, and even Christians, God is far away and they do their best to please Him, worship Him, and obey His word. But to us God needs to be present and real, enjoyable and practical, and He is so available to us in His Word.

We have never seen God with our physical eyes or touched Him with our hands, but we know Him inwardly, we enjoy Him all day long, and we have Him as our everything through His living word.

The Lord can be tasted in His word, and His taste is good; if we have tasted Him, we will long for the nourishing milk in His word, and we will come to Him again and again as His loving seekers in His word.

Dear Lord Jesus, we want to come to Your word in a proper way so that the Author of the Bible would become our portion in a rea, present, and enjoyable way! Lord, we long to taste You, enjoy You, contact You, and be nourished with You in Your living Word. You are so available to us, and we enjoy Your real, present, and practical presence. Oh Lord, we have never seen You or touched You physically, but You are everything to us and we enjoy You in our inner being all day long! We love You, Lord Jesus!

In order for God to be our portion, He must also be very practical, present, enjoyable, and available. How could something become our portion if it were not near and available? And how could something be our portion if it were not enjoyable and practical? For many Jews, Muslims, and even Christians, God is far away. To them, God is not practical, present, enjoyable, and available. In their experience, they do not have Him as their portion.

I can testify from personal experience that my God truly has become my portion. I have never seen Him with my eyes or touched Him with my hands, but in my inner being I enjoy Him all day long. (Witness Lee, Life-study of Exodus, pp. 708-710)
