God is a flowing stream of water of life, and He rules in us by watering us and giving us to drink [picture source: a flowing river]Even though yesterday we were getting into a very similar matter – God doesn’t rule primarily by judging and condemning but by watering – today and even tomorrow we are enjoying more about the flowing of the Triune God!

Psa. 72:8 says, “And He will have dominion from sea to sea and from the River unto the ends of the earth.” which sounds very similar to Psalm 46:4, “There is a river whose streams gladden the city of God.” Amen, Water! Amen, a river flowing! Amen, there’s a river!

God’s dominion is gained by His flowing

The river in Psa. 72:6 and Psa. 46:4 signifies the flowing out of the Triune God. Our God is a flowing God, and He spreads His reign and His kingdom over the whole earth by flowing as river of water of life!

People in the world spread their authority by force or by law, but the way God spreads His kingdom is by watering, flowing, and dripping living water over the whole earth. On the one hand, the Lord Jesus will return to judge the earth, but on the other hand He will return to water the earth.

Today we are under His continual watering, flowing, and dripping – and as we enjoy this flow and rain, we are brought under His dominion!

The flowing river throughout the Bible

We can see a flowing river throughout the Bible, beginning from Gen. 2, where man was created and placed in the garden of Eden. There we see that man was encouraged by God to eat the tree of life, and in the garden there was a river which divided in four river, reaching out to the whole earth.

In the flow of this river there’s precious materials like gold, bdellium, and onyx stone. If we read in Revelation 22, we see that in the New Jerusalem the precious materials are built up into a city, there’s the river of water of life flowing in the middle of the city, and the tree of life growing on both sides of the river.

Not only at both ends of the Bible do we see the flowing river, but throughout the Bible there are some mentions of this flow. Psa. 36:8-9 says, You cause them to drink of the river of Your pleasures. / For with You is the fountain of life.

In John 4:14 the Lord Jesus gives us the living water which becomes in us a fountain gushing up into eternal life. In John 7:38-39 there’s a call for whomever is thirsty to come and drink, and whoever believes into the Lord out of his innermost being shall flow rivers of living water!

In Rev. 22:17 we see that even at the end there’s a call for whoever is thirsty to come and drink of the water of life freely!

God is flowing out and He flows into man today!

What do all these mentions of the river signify? Does it have to do anything with God and His purpose?

These verses and many others like them show us that God has flowed out of eternity and into time to reach man, come into man, fill man, become a fountain of living water gushing up into eternal life, and even flow man all the way into and as the New Jerusalem!

First of all God flowed into the Lord Jesus, and when He was on earth God was flowing in Him wherever He was. After His resurrection, God is flowing in Christ as the Spirit to reach out to the ends of the earth and fill every human being!

God Himself is the fountain, the source, Christ the Son is the spring of this water, and the Spirit is the living stream – flowing all the time! Praise the Lord, the divine stream has reached us!

When we believed into the Lord, the flowing Triune God entered into us and now He flows as the Spirit within our spirit, even in our whole being.

God does everything by the means of this flow – in the divine stream there’s the tree of life (the life-supply and nourishment), and as we drink of the river of life, we are brought under God’s dominion and rule! Praise the Lord – we are in the divine stream!

[sharing inspired from, Christ and the Church Revealed and Typified in the Psalms (by brother Witness Lee), as quoted in the Morning Revival on the Crystallization-Study of Psalms (1) . Intro: the divine stream in the Bible.]

What a mighty flowing out You are, O, God! You flow throughout the ages! You flow in many stages and in many ways to reach man and flow in man! O, Lord, keep us drinking of You and also flowing You out! Keep us in the divine stream in the middle of the street! In the stream there’s everything we need – supply, water, and the power to submit to God’s rule! We praise You for such a pleasant way to rule over us – You flow continually towards us and in us! Lord, praise You for the divine stream in which we are as we drink!
