letting the mind of Christ saturate our mind and living in the index of the Lord’s eyes

letting the mind of Christ saturate our mind and living in the index of the Lord's eyes [picture credit: Giorgio Trovato, Look me in the eye]“Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus…” (Phil. 2:5) – Christ had a certain frame of mind, a mind of His own, and this mind needs to become our mind.

As believers in Christ, we have Christ in our spirit as the indwelling Christ living in us – but we need to allow Christ to spread from our spirit into every part of our soul! The leading part of our soul is our mind, so we need to take Christ’s mind as our mind.

This is why Paul says in Rom. 12:2 that we need to be transformed by the renewing of our mind – our mind is being slowly filled and replaced with the mind of Christ.

Just as a hand enters into the glove to give meaning, purpose, and sense to the glove, so Christ’s mind enters into our mind to give meaning, purpose, and sense to our mind! Practically, we need to cooperate with the Lord by opening to Him and praying to Him,

Lord, I want to take You as my life and my person! May Your mind become my mind. I even want to reject my own mind and allow You to spread into my mind and fill my mind with Your thinking, Your thoughts…

Too many times Christ is “imprisoned in our spirit” and we don’t allow Him into our mind. Our mind is so busy and occupied with the things related to our family life, our job, our personal life, our business, our property, etc – but Christ is longing and waiting for us to turn again to Him and allow Him to saturate, invade, permeate, and take over our mind!

When we open to Him and take Him as our person, we will let the mind of Christ be our mind and we will consider everything that is related to us according to the mind of Christ.

Another matter that impressed me this morning concerning the indwelling Christ – who is so enjoyable and experiential – was Paul’s experience of forgiving the brother in Corinth “for your sake in the person of Christ” (2 Cor. 2:10).

Paul didn’t just say simply, I forgave the brother – let’s get it over with. No, he forgave the brother and he did everything in the person of Christ – and particularly here the person refers to the index of a person’s eyes, where you can see clearly how he feels, how he thinks, etc.

He allowed the mind of Christ to become his mind to such an extent that everything he did was in the person of Christ, in the index of the Lord’s eyes, one with the Lord.

This living Person in us, the indwelling Christ, wants to become so real and personal to us that we do everything in oneness with Him, by looking into the Lord’s eyes and being one with Him… I was particularly helped and encouraged by this precious quote from the Life-Study of 2 Corinthians (msg 4),

Thus, he writes this Epistle to comfort and encourage them in a very personal, tender, and affectionate way, so much so that this Epistle may be considered to some extent his autobiography. In it we see a person who lives Christ, according to what he wrote concerning Him in his first Epistle, in the closest and most intimate contact with Him, acting according to the index of His eyes; a person who is one with Christ, full of Christ, and is saturated with Christ; one who is broken and even terminated in his natural life, softened and flexible in his will, affectionate yet restricted in his emotion, considerate and sober in his mind, and pure and genuine in his spirit toward the believers for their benefit, that they may experience and enjoy Christ as he does for the fulfillment of God’s eternal purpose in the building up of Christ’s Body.

[sharing inspired from, The Subjective Experience of the Indwelling Christ (by brother Lee) and the life-study of 2 Corinthians, as quoted in the Morning Revival on the Crucial Elements of the Bible]

Lord, we simply open to You! Make us those who cooperate with You that You may spread into our mind more today. You know our mind, and You know how much we need You to renew us…. Transform us more today, dear Lord. Saturate our mind with Your mind, and come into our mind to fill us with Your mind! We don’t want to have You imprisoned and locked up in our spirit anymore – we open to You our whole being! Make us those like Paul, living in the index of Your eyes, according to Your direct ruling and reigning…
