Pray-reading the Word of God, Applying it, and desiring Earnestly to Prophesy

Prophesying in the church meetings, i.e. speaking for God and speaking forth God into one another, fulfills the greatest prophecy in the Bible (Matt. 16:18).Prophesying in the church meetings, i.e. speaking for God and speaking forth God into one another, fulfills the greatest prophecy in the Bible (Matt. 16:18).

What constitutes prophesying is not eloquence of speech or brilliance of wit — it is the speaking forth of God Himself into others, which issues in the building up of the church (1 Cor. 14:4b).

In my experience, I have found an unexpected antithesis in Matthew 24, where the Lord reveals that, at the time of His coming back, the days will be like those in Noah’s time—everyone will be eating, drinking, marrying, and giving in marriage. This highlights an attitude of indulgence and excess, instigated by Satan, in the matters necessary for existence.

Not too long ago at my job, I was put in charge of the training and oversight of two new hires. In the midst of added responsibilities, I found myself easily consumed by the tasks at hand. Though I did not indulge in worldly enjoyments, I was effectively distracted by the necessities of existence, which impaired my personal relationship with the Lord. Consequently, when I met with the saints, I found I had nothing to say.

A good minister is one who firstly takes the initiative to be nourished with the words of life concerning Christ (1 Tim. 4:6).

Though the Lord may speak to me during my times in the morning with Him, I would often fail to let this word nourish me in the midst of fulfilling my work responsibilities. By the end of the day, I would return home exhausted, both physically and spiritually, and my love toward the Lord would have grown cold.

As a fellow believer who desires earnestly to prophesy for the building up of the church, I have been learning to love the Lord and to bring Him into every detail of my life.

In addition to pray-reading over the verses and the outline points in the HWMR, I have been practicing to apply them throughout the day while at work or at home. In preparing for the Lord’s day prophesying meeting, there are many technical points that help in our perfecting.

However, the greatest help I’ve received has been learning to breathe in the Lord and apply His word—simply to love the Lord, every moment of each day. Then when I meet with the brothers and sisters, I cannot help but speak and overflow all of my experiences of Him.
