Since our old man has been crucified and died, even being buried with Christ, we are discharged from its law and are married to Christ, our new Husband; we have two statuses – the old man (the old husband) and the new man (the proper wife married to Christ as the Husband). Amen!
When God created man, He created him in the image of God and according to His likeness, and both the Old and the New Testament reveal that God wants man to be married to God, God being the Husband and man being the wife.
This is why God not only created man but also does many things related to man, even becoming incarnated to court man, woo man, and redeem man.
God is the universal Husband and we as His people are becoming His wife. He is not only our Creator but even more, our Redeemer, the One who came to redeem us and bring us back to the right position for us to be His wife.
Sadly to say, even though God wants to be the Husband and man the wife, man fell, and he became the old man.
Now the old man assumes the position of a husband. Instead of depending on God for everything, the old man depends and relies on himself for everything.
We see this with the invention of the culture in the first few chapters of Genesis; because man lost God and was no longer dependent on God for everything, man becomes his own person and assumes the position of the husband. Oh Lord!
But we believers in Christ, through regeneration, have been brought back to the proper position as a wife!
We have been regenerated to be the children of God, and now we are becoming the wife of Christ.
Through the gospel, we have seen a vision of the most wonderful One, Jesus Christ. We have been captured by Him, captivated by Him, and drawn by Him, and now we are running after Him, pursuing Him to enjoy Him.
Day by day we are learning to love Him and depend on Him.
However, we realise that, by default, we are in the old man; by birth as human beings, we are in the old man, and by living in ourselves, apart from the organic union with the Lord, we are in the old man.
So many times, even though our old man has been crucified with Christ and we can experience this in our daily life, we still live in the old man, for we do not remain in the organic union with the Lord!
So we need to be reminded again and again to turn to our spirit, enjoy the Lord, and depend on Him, even love Him and take Him as our Husband. Christ is our new Husband and we are His wife. Lord Jesus, we love You! Amen!
We are Freed from the Law Regarding the Old Man and are Joined to Christ, our New Husband
According to Romans 7:2-6, Christ is the new Husband and we are His wife. As regenerated believers in Christ, whether we are female or male, we have Christ as our Husband and we are part of His wife.
In God’s eyes, all of God’s people are part of the wife, and He is the Husband.
However, even though all genuine Christians have Christ as their husband, it is pitiful to see that many do ot know Him as their Husband. So many believers in Christ live out the old man, not being dependent on Christ.
People look at Christians today and see them as widows, the most pitiful persons, for they have been married to Christ and they live in such a way as if Christ died and now they live instead of Christ. Oh Lord!
If we do not live in the organic union with the Lord, depending on Him as our new Husband, we are pitiful persons, for we have been robbed and stripped of all our enjoyment and have lost the Lord. Oh Lord!
We need to see what is going on in the spiritual realm regarding us being the wife of Christ.
In Rom. 7:2-3, there are two husbands – the first is the old man, the unregenerated man who declares independence from God and assumes the position of a head, and the second is Christ.
According to Romans 6:6, our old man has been crucified with Christ. Amen!
First, we were joined to the old man, for by birth we are in the old man; the married woman is bound by the law to her husband while he is living, but if he dies, she is discharged from the law regarding the husband.
Praise the Lord, if the old man dies, we are freed from its law so that we may be joined to God! We cannot be joined to God while we’re still joined to the old man, for this would be adultery.
But praise the Lord, we have been dead to the law through the body of Christ (Rom. 7:3), and now we can be joined to God as our new Husband!
The first husband, the old husband, is the old man, who has been crucified with Christ.
The second husband, the new husband, is Christ.
Thank the Lord that, since our old man – who was the old husband – has been crucified with Christ, we are now freed from his law and are joined to the new Husband, Christ, who is the ever-living one! Hallelujah!
May we see this and may we realise this in our daily Christian experience.
May we see that, because of the fall, we are the old man, and the old man assumes the position of a husband. We are joined to the old man until we repent and believe into the Lord Jesus.
Through faith into the Lord and through baptism, we are cut off from the old man, and even more, the old man is crucified with Christ and put to death!
Now the old man is dead, buried with Christ, and we are discharged from the law regarding the old man!
The law was given by God to the old man, not to us as the wife; God saw that the old man assumed the position of a husband, so He gave him the law.
The law was never meant to be kept by the old man but to expose the old man and show his inability to please God and fulfil God’s requirements.
God gave the old man the law to expose him and make him clear that he cannot fulfil God’s law. Then, Christ came and crucified the old man, and our old man has been crucified and buried with Him.
May we see that our old man has been crucified with Christ and now we believers in Christ are joined to our new Husband, Christ, to live a loving married life with Him in spirit!
The body of sin has been annulled, we no longer serve sin as slaves, and we now live to God, even bear fruit to God, for we are married to Christ as our new Husband!
Lord Jesus, we love You! You are our beloved Husband. Thank You for betrothing us to Yourself through the ministry of the word. Hallelujah, we are joined to Christ as our new Husband to live a life depending on Him and being joined to Him in spirit! Amen, Lord, may we see that our old man has been crucified with Christ so that the body of sin might be annulled! Praise the Lord, the old man has been crucified with Christ and we are no longer joined to him as our old husband but to Christ as our new husband! Hallelujah, we are freed from the law regarding the old man who assumed the position of a husband, and we are joined to Christ as our new Husband! Lord Jesus, we want to live in the organic union with You today! We come to You again and again concerning all things, and we depend on You for everything. We no longer serve sin as slaves – we give ourselves to You to love You, be one with You, and do all things in oneness with You!
We Believers have Two Statuses: the Old Man who Assumes to be the Husband and the New Man who is the Genuine Wife of God
We believers in Christ are complicated human beings. We were complicated even before regeneration, but now, after being regenerated, we are even more complicated, for we have not only our human life but even more, the divine life.
We believers in Christ have two statuses: the old man and the new man.
Even though we are regenerated with God’s life and are genuine God-men, we still have the old man here with us, and so many times we live in the old man, being one with the old man.
In Rom. 7:4, we are in the old status as the fallen old man, who left the original position of a wife dependent on God.
The old man refuses to depend on God and takes the self-assumed position of a husband and head, being independent of God. Oh Lord!
But praise the Lord, through the body of Christ on the cross, we have been made dead to the law so that we may be joined to another, Christ as our new Husband!
The old man left the original position of being the wife of God, and he became independent of God.
But praise the Lord, we have a new status once we live in the mingled spirit; in the spirit we are the regenerated new man, for we have been restored to our original and proper position as the genuine wife to God (Isa. 54:5; 1 Cor. 11:3).
Now we depend on God and take Him as our Head. After regeneration, we are joined to Christ as our new Husband, and we take Him as our head, our life, and our everything, depending on Him for all things.
Thank the Lord, now we no longer have the old status of the husband, for we have been crucified with Christ.
We now have only the status of the proper wife – we are the wife of Christ, taking Him as our Husband, and we choose to no longer live according to the old man! This is a daily choice.
When we wake up in the morning, we are by default in the old man, for the old man is alive and living in us. So we need to choose to turn to our spirit and love the Lord as our new Husband.
We need to remind the old man that he has been crucified on the cross, and now we are no longer in the old man, but we’re joined to Christ as our new Husband!
If we are in the old man, the law is there for us, and the old man is exposed that he cannot keep the law.
But if we are in the new man, in the regenerated man, living one spirit with the Lord, the righteous requirements of the law are simply fulfilled in us (Rom. 8:4).
May we realise that we now have only the status of a proper wife, in which we take Christ as our Husband.
May we no longer live according to the old man, that is, no longer take the old man as our husband.
May the Lord shine on us and cause us to see that we have been freed from the old man with his law, and we have been joined to Christ as our new Husband to love Him, live one with Him, and depend on Him!
We may not know where we are at a given time, but we can see whether we’re in the old man if we notice that we try to keep the law.
If we try to keep the law, we are in the old man, for the law was given by God to the old man, the old husband, to expose him (Rom. 7:5; 3:20; 5:20).
When we sense that we’re trying to obey an outward regulation or law, we need to turn to Christ in our spirit!
The old man cannot keep the law; the law merely exposes the old man’s inability to keep the law and please God.
May we be those who turn to our spirit again and again, being restored to the original and proper position as the genuine wife of God!
May the Lord shine on us and expose the old man with its expressions in us, and may we remain in our spirit so that the old man may be put to death through the cross and we will live a new life with our new Husband, Christ, in resurrection!
Lord Jesus, thank You for regenerating us with Your life so that we may be children of God and part of the corporate wife of Christ. Hallelujah, we are now part of the genuine wife of Christ by being regenerated with God’s life! Oh Lord, may we see that the old man is the fallen man declaring independence from God and assuming the position of a husband. May we realise that our old man has been crucified with Christ. Amen, Lord, may we remain in our spirit joined to the Spirit so that the old man may remain on the cross, even be buried with Christ! We refuse to be independent of God and we choose to be dependent on the Lord in everything! Oh Lord, praise You for restoring us to our original and proper position as the genuine wife of God! Hallelujah, Christ is our new Husband and we are His wife! Amen, Lord, we love You! We depend on You. We take You as our Head. We trust in You and rely on You for everything!

– My old man has been crucified with Him, / With all its foul corruption deep within; / And buried too its nature serpentine, / Completely finished—this great fact is mine, / I hold it fast. / But there’s a Person in my spirit now, / Born as a babe so small, so weak, so low; / Who by the Word’s pure milk will grow to be / The overcoming inner man in me / To gain my heart. (Hymns #1179 stanzas 1-2)
– Our old man has been crucified with Christ; / Yes, all we are in oldness He sufficed / To bring to naught upon the cross that He / Himself as our new Husband fully be / Enjoyed by us. / Yes, all our strength of independence died, / For we with Christ were fully crucified. / Now we’re so glad to be His proper wife, / Dependently enjoying Him as life / Forevermore. / Our dying was not such a sad affair, / The new man was rejoicing to be there; / The old man dead and buried, we were free / To marry Christ, and live eternally, / His wife, fore’er. (Hymns #1140 stanzas 1-3)
– My old person has been nullified; / With my Lord upon the cross he died; / Now in nothing shall he be applied; / He’s dead to me. / My new Person in my spirit dwells; / Springing in me as a bubbling well; / Flowing out until each part He fills / With abundant life. (Hymns #1180 stanza 1)

We need to see that our old man, who assumes the position of a husband, has been crucified with Christ, and we have been joined to Christ as our new Husband!
We are no longer joined to the old man, for we have been released from its law and have been joined to our beloved Lord Jesus!
Hallelujah, amen. The first husband, the old man has been crucified with Christ.
We have been made dead to the law and are no longer joined to it.
Alas brother, most believers have been stripped & robbed of their enjoyment of Christ as their Husband.
Indeed, they don’t realise that Christ is their real Husband and they are the wife who was created to be dependent on Christ.
We believers have two statuses:- Our old status is as the fallen old man; now, we are the bride of Christ.
The death of the old man has made us dead to the law.
Therefore, we should no longer live according to the old man, that is, no longer take the old man as our husband.
In our original status as the fallen man we assumed the position of the husband, independent of God. But in our new status as the regenerated new man we have been freed from the law. Our old husband (the old man) having been crucified, for us to have Christ as our new husband, dependent on Him as His wife according to His original intention in Isaiah 54:5:
Hallelujah brother 🙌
Good news, brother! Our old man (old husband) has been crucified with Christ, and we have been discharged from the laws that bound us to him! Hallelujah, we are free, joined to our new husband Christ, the ever-living One!
As such, we’re no longer pitiful widows. Bcos of regeneration, we have assumed our new status – the new man, restored to our proper position as God’s genuine wife! Now we depend on God and take Him as our Head, Amen!
Now we can bid the law goodbye! For, it was intended n given to the old man, our old husband. Praise the Lord, the death of the old man has made us dead to the law through the body of Christ!
Amen, in order to stop loving the old dead husband, our old man, we need to fall in love with the new husband, Christ.
We can only do this by spending increasing amounts of time with Him each day until our heart is firmly attached to Him. Amen
Your sharing this morning on being joined to Christ really touched me. I also spent some time this morning in the book of Jeremiah, particularly reflecting on the contrast between Jeremiah the prophet and King Jehoiakim. In a time of great national turmoil, Jeremiah remained faithful to the word of the Lord—speaking truth despite rejection, loneliness, and misunderstanding. Meanwhile, Jehoiakim refused to hear God’s word, even cutting and burning the scrolls Jeremiah wrote (Jer. 36). That act struck me deeply.
It reminded me how easy it is, even in our time, to respond to tribulation by resisting or ignoring God’s speaking. Yet through Jeremiah’s example, I see that the Lord is not looking for outward strength or position, but for those who are soft and open to His word—no matter the cost.
In my recent trials, this portion has been a light. The Lord may not immediately remove the hardship, but He desires to gain something deeper in us: a heart that trembles at His word and remains faithful under pressure.
Pray that we truly take Christ as our Head and live in this new union with Him.

Hallelujah! We are now joined to Christ our husband. The law was not for our keeping but for our breaking and to show us that the old man cannot be our husband.
Ameen!!! Hallelujah!!!
We are no longer bound by the law to our old husband because he died.
Also the body of sin is nullified and from the law we have been released.
Now we are under grace and we live by faith, joined to our new Husband.
