In order for us to maintain the one accord, we need to be sanctified through the Word of God; sanctification through the Word results in oneness by dealing with any factors of division, for sanctification issues in the genuine oneness – sanctification keeps us in the Triune God, in the oneness of the Triune God! Amen!
We need to come back to the divine revelation in God’s word when it comes to the matter of the one accord; in the book of Acts, we see how the early disciples had the one accord after praying for ten days in one accord, and the Lord had a free way to pour out the Holy Spirit.
After this, the disciples took the way of prayer, the Spirit, and the word; they did not take any other way for the increase.
The way we should take today to maintain the one accord is prayer, the Spirit, and the Word.
Whenever we bring in any other way, no matter how good it may be, it may bring in division and dissension.
We may start very well, some people may be brought in, and some aspects of the church life may be improved, but nothing works except prayer, the Spirit, and the Word.
We need to get into the Word of God day by day, seeking the Lord face to face and enjoying Him personally. We need to be saturated and soaked with the Word of God.
We cannot serve others, nor can we preach the gospel by using our own words or ideas.
As we advance in the Lord and with the Lord, we need to make sure we remain on the pathway of life, not holding on to anything that is apart from Christ but rather, focusing only on Christ.
The Lord might have used a particular way or thing to help us grow in life, and He might have given us certain experiences of Christ to cause us to go on.
What we minister to others, the only thing that helps others in their growth in life, is the word of God that is enjoyed by us, experienced by us, infused into us, constituted into us, and flowing through us as the living word of God.
We need to pray so that we may have the Spirit as the power to spread the Word of God.
We need to speak the word of God by the power from the Spirit; we need to deal much with the Spirit, the Holy Spirit, so that we may be fully open to Him from within.
We need the Lord’s shining and exposing. We need His rebuking and His pointing out what are the problems.
We want to be persons full of the Spirit within and without, so we want to pay the price to gain more of the Spirit, be filled with the Word, and remain in prayer.
The Truth Sanctifies us and Sanctification Issues in Oneness – we need the Sanctification!
Whether we realise this or not, there are many factors of division in us and among us, especially when we are not in our spirit. Therefore, we need to be sanctified.
Sanctification through the Word of God results in oneness by dealing with the factors of division; truth sanctifies, and sanctification issues in oneness (John 17:14-24).
John 17 is the Lord’s prayer before He was arrested and later put to death. In this prayer, after He washed the disciples’ feet and established the Lord’s table, He prayed. The main thing He prayed for was oneness. He prayed for oneness.
If we use the glasses of one accord as we read John chapter 17, we will realise that the Lord wants His people, the believers in Christ, to be in one accord, that is, that they all may be one.
His disciples were not one. When He told them that He would go to Jerusalem and be killed, put to death, and resurrected after three days, they were contending with one another who would be the first in the kingdom. They were not one. So the Lord prayed for oneness.
There was ambition there and many other factors of division. So the Lord prayed that the Father would sanctify us in His word; His word is truth. Sanctification and glory are mentioned, and oneness is also mentioned.
If we don’t have sanctification, there’s no oneness in actuality. For us to have the oneness, we need the sanctification.
In John 17:17 in particular, we see that we need to be sanctified in the truth, and the word of God is the truth.
In the Gospel of John, the truth has at least these two functions: to sanctify us and to set us free (8:32).
We need to be set free from any factors of division, and we need to be made one, even to have the one accord; the truth sanctifies us, and sanctification issues in oneness. Amen!
Sanctification, truth, and oneness are interrelated, as seen in John 17. Sanctification issues from the truth, and when we are sanctified, we are one. We are one by being sanctified in the Word of God. Truth sanctifies us and sanctification issues in oneness.
The reason we can be sanctified in the truth and this issues in oneness is that God is embodied in His Word. God the Father is embodied in Christ, the Son; the Son is realised as the Spirit, and the Spirit is one with the Word.
When we come to the Word of God with the exercise of our spirit, we touch the Word and, at the same time, we touch the Spirit.
When we exercise our spirit to not only read but also pray over God’s word, we will touch the Spirit, and something of the Triune God is infused into our being.
What is infused in us by our touching the Spirit in the Word is the truth. This doesn’t mean that the more we read the Bible, the more we’re sanctified and the more we are one.
Biblical knowledge may be involved, for the truth is in God’s word, but there’s something living inside this knowledge.
We need to touch the Spirit in the Word with the exercise our spirit to have the Triune God realised by us and transfused into us through the Word.
As we touch the Lord in this way, what we receive is not just biblical knowledge but even more, we’re mingled with the Triune God and He is infused into our being. He is the truth infused into us to set us free and sanctify us. Amen!
When the Triune God is infused into us by means of His sanctifying Word, we are one! The issue is spontaneous oneness – we are one in God and we have the one accord!
Lord Jesus, we open to You as we come to Your word. Sanctify us in the truth; Your word is the truth. Oh Lord, infuse us with Yourself as we come to You in Your word. We exercise our spirit as we read the Bible. Sanctify us as we touch the Spirit in the Word. Hallelujah, the Father is embodied in the Son, the Son is realised as the Spirit, and the Spirit is one with the Word of God! Amen, Lord, we exercise our spirit to touch the Spirit as we touch the Word of God! Infuse us with the truth. May we gain not only biblical knowledge or scriptural doctrines but even more, something living of God! Amen, Lord, we want to know the truth and have the truth so that we may be set free! Hallelujah, sanctification through the Word results in oneness by dealing with any factor of division! Praise the Lord, truth sanctifies and sanctification issues in oneness! Amen, Lord, keep us in Your sanctifying Word today!
Sanctification Issues in Genuine Oneness because Sanctification Keeps us in the Triune God
The oneness that the Lord Jesus prayed for in John 17 is not merely the oneness of the Spirit or a unity among the believers; He prayed that we may be one even as the Triune God is one.
In John 17:17-23, we see that sanctification issues in the genuine oneness because this sanctification keeps us in the Triune God; verse 21 says, “That they all may be one; even as You, Father, are in Me and I in You, that they also may be in Us”.
The only way we can have oneness is in the Triune God. We are kept in the Triune God by means of sanctification. Sanctification issues in genuine oneness because sanctification keeps us in the Triune God.
This oneness is the co-inhering oneness, the oneness of the Father being in the Son, the Son being in the Father, and the believers being in the Triune God. The only way to be in such oneness is to be in the Triune God.
It is possible for us to be in the Triune God by means of His sanctification through His word. The way is by the word sanctifying us and operating in us, as we touch the Word of God by prayer and the Spirit (John 17:19; 1 Thes. 5:23; Eph. 5:26; Heb. 2:11).
When we touch the Word of God with prayer and the Spirit, we move out of ourselves and into the “Us” – the Triune God, in a most practical and intimate way. Amen!
In order for us to be one, we need to be in the “Us” – in the Triune God! That is real oneness! Amen!
The only way for us to be in the Triune God is by the sanctifying truth that deals with any and all the factors of division.
The word of God, the truth in God’s word, frees us and sanctifies us, and it operates in us to deal with any negative things. When we are in the process of being sanctified, we are brought into genuine oneness because sanctification keeps us in the Triune God.
When we are kept in the Triune God, we are one; however, when we’re out of the Triune God, we are immediately divided.
What is the cause of division? It is not merely disagreeing with certain doctrines or seeing some problems that are not dealt with in the church; it is being out of the Triune God.
May we be kept in the Triune God by being sanctified in the truth.
May we contact the Lord every morning, touch the living Word, and have the factors of division be removed and overcome in our experience.
Day by day, and especially in the morning, we need to have contact with the Lord.
Each one of us needs to have a personal relationship with the Lord. We cannot have the one accord if we don’t have a personal relationship with the Lord.
Even though the one accord is corporate, it is also intrinsic and very personal, for it hinges on our personal relationship with the Lord. In the morning, we need to start by moving out of ourselves and into the Triune God in our personal, intimate, and spiritual time with the Lord.
We need to come to Him as we are, let Him shine on us, and confess anything that He exposes through His light. We need to allow the Lord to live in us throughout the day, being in a continual conversation with Him in all things and concerning all things, so that we may be one with Him.
How much we need to move out of ourselves and into the Triune God by means of the divine sanctification through the word of God! As we are being sanctified in the truth, the result is genuine oneness, for we are kept in the Triune God as our oneness.
When the factors of division in us are put to death by the sanctifying truth, we are brought into the genuine oneness, for sanctification keeps us in the Triune God! Wow, sanctification keeps us in the Triune God!
We all can testify that we have had this experience. We spend time with the Lord in the morning, and throughout the day, whether we are driving or taking public transport to work or school, our eyes and hearts are drawn to so many things. Or maybe our wife says something, or our boss has a certain request from us, and we are simply drawn away from the Lord.
But if we keep turning to our spirit, conversing with the Lord all the time, we are being sanctified. If we continue to pray and chew on God’s word, we are being sanctified.
We need to be kept in the Triune God by means of sanctification in God’s word. Sanctification through the Word of the truth results in the oneness of the Body of Christ, which is the enlarged oneness of the Triune God (John 17:21).
When we are sanctified, we are brought into the Triune God as our oneness; we are brought into the coinherence of the Triune God, so that the divine oneness is enlarged to contain us.
The oneness of the Triune God is enlarged to contain us, the Body of Christ! Hallelujah!
Lord Jesus, cause us to see that sanctification issues in the genuine oneness! Amen, Lord, may we realise that sanctification in the truth keeps us in the Triune God! We come to You, dear Lord, to be sanctified by You in the truth. May we learn to move out of ourselves and into the Triune God by means of being sanctified in the truth! Oh Lord, may we see that the only way to be in the Triune God is by the sanctifying truth which deals with all the factors of division. We just open to You as we come to Your word. Amen, Lord, keep us in You today. Keep us in the Triune God. We come to You in the morning to contact You and touch the living Word. Infuse the divine reality into our being. We come to contact You day by day so that we may have any factors of division in us be overcome. Bring us into the genuine oneness and keep us by sanctification in the Triune God! Hallelujah, sanctification through the word of the truth results in the oneness of the Body of Christ – the enlarged oneness of the Triune God!
