Christ is the sure mercies shown to David and also the covenant; He is the covenanted mercies!

April 15, 2011 by aGodMan Leave a Comment

In His economy, God desires to be the fountain of living waters for His people to drink and be filled with! He is the source, the fountain, of the water of life – and He calls us all to come and drink! So wonderful! As the living waters, Christ is also the sure mercies shown to David! Right after Isa. 55:1-2 where God issues a call for everyone to come and drink, He says in verses 3-4,

Incline your ear and come to Me; Hear, so that your soul may live; And I will make an eternal covenant with you, Even the sure mercies shown to David. Indeed, I have given Him as a Witness to the peoples, A Leader and a Commander to the peoples.

Christ was given to us as the sure mercies shown to David – He is the center of the divine provisions to Israel, and also to all God’s people! Why do we need these mercies? Isn’t it enough for us to come and drink of God?

Because of the low and pitiful state we are in the fall of man, God comes to us in Christ as the sure mercies to reach us! Christ was incarnated to bring God as grace to us (John 1:14, 16-17), and He was crucified and resurrected to become the sure mercies to us in His resurrection.

Because our situation was miserable and could not match God’s grace, Christ – the embodiment of God’s grace – became the sure mercies, and because of these mercies we are now in a position to match God and receive Him as grace (see Eph. 2:4).

Based on His redemption and His resurrection, we were justified before God and we can now be sanctified by enjoying Christ – the Son of David – as God’s sure mercies!

Praise the Lord – God did everything for man so that man would be qualified, reached out to, and brought in to enjoy God as the fountain of living waters! He is the sure mercies – mercies that are sure and unshakable – to us, His house!

Even more – these mercies are “covenanted” to us. God’s sure mercies are a covenant to us – God did not only promise or gave His word that He will give Himself to us as the sure mercies of David – He covenanted this!

A “contract” was made for these mercies – and this covenant is also Christ! Christ is an eternal covenant (Isa. 55:3, 61:8) and He is also the covenant of peace to the people (Isa. 54:10). He is the Maker of the covenant, He is the covenant itself, and He is the surety of the covenant!

God in Christ makes sure we receive the living water by providing everything we need – He is the sure mercies of David to qualify us and bring us in the position to drink, and He is the covenant to make sure these mercies are solid and guaranteed to us! Wow!

No matter state we may be in – God in Christ as the covenanted sure mercies of David comes to us to reach out to us, qualify us, justify us, and further sanctify us by the washing of the water in the Word!

As we drink of the Lord in His Word by praying over the Word, opening our heart to the Lord and musing over the Word, chewing the Word of God, etc – we are being filled with the divine water which washes us, fills us, and also gushes up as many springs of water!

This is our practical salvation day by day – drinking God and flowing God out! This is becoming our reality more and more – and Christ as God’s sure mercies to us is the guarantee, the covenant, that this will happen!

[enjoyment from the life-study of Isaiah as quoted in the Holy Word for Morning Revival on the Crystallization-Study of Isaiah (2)]

Lord, thank You so much! Thank You for being the sure mercies of God to us! You reach us where we are – and qualify us to match You and drink of You! Thank You for Your sure mercies! We need Your mercy, Lord… we even need many mercies that meet all of our many needs! We praise You, Lord, for Your covenanted mercies! You guarantee the mercies to us, that we may be guaranteed to be brought to You to drink of You! Wow, Lord, You guarantee and make sure we get to the point where we come to DRINK! Amen, Lord, we love You! We love drinking You as the living water! Keep us drinking today!
