In the Grafted Life, our Human Life is not Eliminated but Uplifted by the Divine Life

For if we have grown together with Him in the likeness of His death, indeed we will also be in the likeness of His resurrection. Rom. 6:5

In the grafted life, the human life is not eliminated but is strengthened, uplifted, and enriched by the divine life, while the negative elements are discharged. Hallelujah!

As believers in Christ, we not only believed into the Lord and now call ourselves Christians; we were grafted into Christ, and our Christian life is a grafted life.

This truly is amazing and very wonderful. It’s one thing to just love the Lord and read the Bible, but it is another thing to realize that we have been plugged into, grafted into Christ, that is, we were joined to Him as one spirit.

So if people want to see God today, they can come to the church, for those who are one spirit with the Lord will live because of the Christ they enjoy, and they express God.

Paul testified in this way; he realize that he was crucified with Christ and it is no longer he who lives but Christ who lives in him.

However, Paul still lived, but the life he now lived was in faith, in the organic union with the Lord, so that he lives Christ and Christ lives in him (Gal. 2:20).

The old I has been crucified with Christ and buried with Him; now the new I, the resurrected being, is living in resurrection one with the Lord.

This is what God is after: millions and millions of believers who no longer live in, to, and by themselves but who live in the grafted life, living a life in the organic union with the Lord.

For this to happen, however, we need to see that we have been grafted.

Hallelujah, we were cut off from the old source, the old man, the old creation, and the self, and we were grafted into Christ through faith in Him!

Now day by day we can practice contacting the Lord by calling on His name and pray-reading His word, and when we do this, we absorb more of the divine riches of this wonderful universal vine to be the Lord’s expression on the earth. Hallelujah!

If we see that we have been grafted into Christ, if we realize that our life as believers in Christ is in this organic union with the Lord, we will no longer express ourselves or do what we want but contact the Lord and remain in this kiss with Him.

On the cross, He was pierced and cut so that we, the sinners who have pierced Him and put Him to death, would be joined to Him.

Now when we open to the Lord and believe into Him, we absorb His riches. He is still flowing. He is still dispensing.

He is continually flowing out and into man, and we can continually receive, enjoy, and be constituted with all that He is.

The result is that we become His corporate expression as the many branches of the vine to manifest Him, bear fruit for Him, and express the riches of His life. Hallelujah!

In the Grafted Life the Human Life is not Eliminated but Strengthened, Uplifted, and Enriched by the Divine Life

But if some of the branches were broken off, and you, being a wild olive tree, were grafted in among them and became a fellow partaker of the root of fatness of the olive tree. Rom. 11:17

We need to have the glasses of God’s economy on whenever we come to the word of God.

Even in the matter of being grafted into Christ, we need to realize that the life we have and live today is not an exchanged life but a grafted life.

We do not give up all that we are and are wiped out, and then God comes in to live in us. It is true that our human life has a lot of weaknesses, problems, and even sins, but God loves us!

Amen, He loves man and He wants His divine life to be mingled with man.

He sees that there are a lot of problems and weaknesses, but He is not afraid of it.

For the mind set on the flesh is death, but the mind set on the spirit is life and peace. Rom. 8:6 But if Christ is in you, though the body is dead because of sin, the spirit is life because of righteousness. Rom. 8:10 And if the Spirit of the One who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who indwells you. Rom. 8:11God is not afraid to have us grafted into Him – no matter how weak and full of problems we may be.

In the grafted life the human life is not eliminated but is strengthened, uplifted, and enriched by the divine life (Gal. 2:20; 4:19; Eph. 3:16-17).

On one hand, the divine life in us swallows up all the negative things, all the problems, and all the weaknesses.

On the other hand, the flow of the divine life fills us with the positive and rich aspects of God’s life, supplying us and enabling us to live the life of Christ on earth.

God created us to be vessels who contain Him, and even though we fell and our body became the flesh, the soul became the self, and the spirit became deadened, God still wants to fill us with His life.

As we live the Christian life we realize how many problems and weaknesses we have in our natural being, and we are exposed to see aht our disposition is and how much it is against God and His will.

But God is not discouraged: though our humanity may be defective, though there may be shortcomings, He doesn’t judge us but simply supplies us with Himself as life.

The God-created humanity in us is strengthened, renewed, uplifted, and resurrected for God’s expression.

Therefore, we should not lose heart when we see how much we fail, how bad our flesh is, and how independent our self is; we should simply contact the Lord and place ourselves under God’s dispensing.

And we should not criticize others when we see their defective and weak humanity, realizing that they are also in the process of being filled with the life of God so that they become God-men in full expressing Christ in everything. Hallelujah!

Satan wants to destroy humanity, but God wants to impart His life into man so that He may uplift, resurrect, transform, and strengthen the God-created part of man for His expression in resurrection.

The more we enjoy the Lord, the more we become Jesusly human.

We don’t become more “angelic” when we enjoy God; we become more like Jesus, Jesusly human. Angels cannot fulfill God’s purpose; they are only servants of God.

What God wants is humanity being filled and saturated with divinity.

God treasures every human life and wants to mingle His life with humanity so that God and man would be one.

In the grafted life, the branch retains its same essential characteristics but is strengthened, uplifted, and transformed by being grafted into a higher life (John 15:4-5; Rom. 11:17).

His life is much richer, much stronger, and much more vital than our life; when we abide in the Lord, our weaknesses are being absorbed, our sins are forgiven, and we enjoy the richer, stronger, and more vital life of God filling us and enabling us to live Christ.

This grafted life…is not an exchanged life…The branch still retains its same essential characteristics, but its life is uplifted and transformed by being grafted to the better life. What are the results of the grafting? When the fatness of the better tree supplies the grafted branch, all the negative things are taken away. Then the original function of that branch is restored and strengthened… [Christ] uplifts the original function that God had for us, strengthening and enriching it. Then naturally and spontaneously, our whole being is saturated and transformed, and a marvelous fruit comes forth. Collected Works of Witness Lee, 1979, vol. 1, “Life Messages, Volume 2,” pp. 285-286In all this, the essential part, the essential characteristics of our weaker life are still there, but they are filled with God’s life.

We are made wonderfully by God (Psa. 139:14), each one with our own disposition and characteristics; God would never discard our humanity.

Hallelujah, He comes in to fill us with Himself. Yes, we are full of sins and weaknesses, and in our flesh, we’re a sin-producing factory.

But we can come to Him, apply His precious blood, and allow Him to flow in us, and His life will swallow up any negative thing and will add God’s element to our being.

Everything that is natural is being discharged little by little, and anything that is fallen is gradually eliminated.

The divine life swallows up our defects and infirmities. As for our disposition, the negative element of our disposition is killed and, instead of casting away our disposition, the Lord uplifts it and uses it for His purpose. Wow!

By creation, God has given each one of us certain traits and we all have a certain disposition; we should not despise it.

While He is getting rid of all the negative and sinful things in our being as we abide in Him, He is uplifting, strengthening, and resurrecting our humanity, and making it sharp, balanced, and proper. Hallelujah!

Lord Jesus, we fully open to Your rich, wonderful, divine dispensing. We want to abide in You and live a grafted life today. We do not look at what we can see outwardly and we don’t introspect to see what is our condition inwardly. We simply set our eyes on You, we open to You, and we receive and enjoy Your divine dispensing! Amen, Lord, dispense more of Yourself into us! Dispense Your rich life in our being and swallow up all the negative elements in us. May the flow of the divine life swallow up our defects, problems, infirmities, and weaknesses. May Your rich flow infuse us with the element of God and uplift our God-created part to strengthen it, resurrect it, and use it in resurrection. Amen, Lord Jesus, we give ourselves to You to live daily, even moment-by-moment, in the mingled spirit, living a grafted life in our Christian life!

Practising to Set our Mind on our Spirit to give the Divine Life a Free Way to Discharge what is Negative and Add God’s Life to our Being

And do not be fashioned according to this age, but be transformed by the renewing of the mind that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and well pleasing and perfect. Rom. 12:2 Because those whom He foreknew, He also predestinated [to be] conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the Firstborn among many brothers; And those whom He predestinated, these He also called; and those whom He called, these He also justified; and those whom He justified, these He also glorified. Rom. 8:29-30The only One who can live the Christian life is Christ Himself, and the only One who can live a proper human life expressing God and fulfilling His purpose is Christ.

This One went through a process and became a life-giving Spirit, and this Spirit is in our spirit today; we are one spirit with the Lord.

Whenever we set our mind on our spirit, we allow the Lord to flow into all the parts of our inner being to do two main things: discharge and add.

On one hand, the divine life flowing in us as we set our mind on our spirit is discharging the negative elements in our being.

We may not feel this and we may not even realize this, but the negative elements and the things that we inherited from the fall are gradually being removed, discharged, and eliminated as we enjoy Christ.

Furthermore, the divine life also resurrects, uplifts, and supplies the riches of Christ to our inward parts.

As we set our mind on our spirit, the divine life has a free way to flow, move, and spread in all the inner parts of our being.

This makes us proper human beings, those who have a high character and a proper humanity not because we try to perfect ourselves or live in a deliberate way but because we are filled with the divine life.

The divine life is prepared and able to eliminate what is negative and add what is of God to our being.

The divine life is rich, able, and always flowing, ready to impart all that is of God into us.

The divine life wants to saturate our whole being to the extent that both our spirit and our soul (with all its parts) and even our mortal body are swallowed up in life (Rom. 8:6, 10, 11).

The more we open to the Lord, call on His name, and set our mind on our spirit, the more the divine life can flow in us and is able to save us organically.

We need to exercise ourselves concerning what the Lord is showing to us and just open our being to Him.

We need to daily be faithful to contact the Lord, pray to Him, read the Word with much prayer, and breathe the Lord in.

To do this is to set our mind on our spirit. When our mind is fixed on our spirit, when our whole being is set on our spirit, the Spirit with our spirit will have a way to spread into every part of our being.

The divine life is prepared and able to do such a work within us. But we need to exercise ourselves concerning what the Lord has shown us. We need to be faithful to contact Him, to pray to Him, to read the Word, and to breathe Him in. To do these things is to set our mind on the spirit (Rom. 8:6). When our mind is set on the spirit, no part of our inward being will be separated from the spirit. This will give the divine life a free way to discharge the negative element, to resurrect, uplift, and supply our faculties, and to saturate every part of our being. Concerning this, we need to pray for ourselves, for others, and for all the local churches. May we be faithful to live and walk according to what we have seen. Life-study of Romans, p. 685, by Witness LeeMay we pray for ourselves and for others that we no longer waste our time in our Christian life but contact the Lord, learn to live in the spirit, and cooperate with Him to allow His life to flow into every part of our inner being!

As we open to the flow of the divine life in our spirit, this grafted life resurrects God’s original creation and uplifts our faculties (John 11:25; Eph. 4:23).

On the negative side, the divine life discharges the negative things, and on the positive side, it works to resurrect, uplift, and strengthen God’s original creation.

In this way, our original functions, the functions given to us by God at creation, are restored, strengthened, and uplifted.

In the grafted life the divine life supplies the riches of Christ to our inward parts and saturates our whole being (Rom. 12:2; 8:29-30).

Originally, our will was strong to choose our own desires but weak toward God; now, our will is subdued and pliable to the Lord but strong against the enemy.

Originally, our emotion was unbalanced, very wild, and difficult to restrain; now, our emotion is balanced and filled with Christ as the real love.

Originally, our mind was filled with thoughts from the enemy and did not consider God, but now our mind is life, for it is set on the spirit.

May we daily learn to set our mind on our spirit so that God as life may flow, move, and spread in our being!

Lord Jesus, we set our mind on our spirit right now. We say Amen to Your life flowing in us. Spread in our whole being. Occupy and invade our mind, Lord, and fill our mind with Your thoughts and Your concepts. Spread into our emotion and make it balanced, filled with love toward God and man and hating anything of Satan. Have a way to subdue our will, Lord, and make it one with You. We just open our whole being to You. We choose to set our mind on our spirit, and we say Amen to Your life flowing in us! Keep us living one spirit with You today. Keep us living in the grafted life today!

The divine life [also] resurrects us…Whatever God creates is good. Instead of giving up His creation, God will reclaim it and restore it by the resurrection power of the divine life. As the divine life discharges the negative things, it works to resurrect God’s original creation. God created us with a mind, emotion, will, soul, heart, and spirit, and He intends to bring all these aspects of our being into resurrection. Before we were saved, we may have been dull in the mind, unbalanced in the emotion, improper in the will. But the more we contact the Lord and experience Him, the more our mind becomes clear and sober, the more our emotion becomes properly balanced, and the more our will becomes adjusted. This is not our natural character, but a resurrected character. Life-study of Romans, p. 683, by Witness Lee
