Holding the Head, Christ, by Enjoying Him as the Reality of all the Positive Things

...holding the Head, out from whom all the Body, being richly supplied and knit together by means of the joints and sinews, grows with the growth of God. Col. 2:19

The Christ who is the reality of all positive things is the One who is the Head of the Body; when we enjoy Him, we are Body-conscious and we are holding the Head (see Col. 2:19).

Hallelujah for our unsearchably rich Christ, who is the reality of all positive things in the universe! Everything that is positive in the Bible and around us is a type of Christ.

However, we don’t “worship the things around us as being Christ”; rather, as we see all the positive people, types, and things, we are reminded of Christ, we turn to Christ, we enjoy Christ, and we take Christ as the reality of all positive things.

Actually, what makes this rich Christ real to us is the Spirit of reality; Christ became the Spirit, and this Spirit guides us into the reality of all that Christ is.

Christ is the Spirit of reality to make the untraceable riches of all that He is real to us, guiding us into Himself as the divine reality.

So when we read the Bible and pray with the words of the Bible, we enjoy all that Christ is, for by the exercise of our spirit we contact the Spirit and receive spirit and life from the word (John 5:39-40).

As the Spirit of reality, Christ ushers us into Himself and guides us into all the reality, even into the expansive realm of reality. And as we enter into Him and enjoy Him as the reality of all positive thing, we realize that He is all-inclusive and extensive, and we apply Him and experience Him.

Our experience of Christ – as we engage Him as the reality of all positive things – engenders a new experience, both in the realm of what He is and in the realm of our being.

First, He guides us into Himself as the extensive and all-inclusive life-giving Spirit so that we may have our being there.

Then, He has access to our being through His words, and we engage Him and He speaks to us; this speaking holds us in Him and adds more of Himself into our being, doing an enriching and transforming work.

Hallelujah, Christ is both the way into God and the reality of what God is (John 14:6); He is the reality (1 John 5:6) and He’s the Spirit of reality (John 16:13) guiding us into Himself as the reality.

May we remain open to Him as we come to His word and as we contact Him; may we learn to exercise our spirit whenever something positive reminds us of Christ, so that He as the reality of all positive things would be wrought into us, and we would enter into the experience of this ever-expanding all-inclusive Christ for the building up of the church as the Body of Christ!

The More we Enjoy Christ – who is the Head of the Body – the more we are Body-Conscious

In Colossians 2:19 Paul speaks not of Christ, but of holding the Head. The reason for the change in terminology from Christ [in verse 17] to the Head is that our enjoyment of the Lord causes us to become conscious of the Body. If we are those who enjoy Christ continually, we shall not continue to be individualistic....The more we enjoy Christ, the more we become Body-conscious.... It is not normal to enjoy the Lord during the day and neglect the meetings of the church, which is His Body. Even if your environment does not allow you to attend all the meetings, inwardly you should have the sense that your whole inner being is with the saints in the church meeting. This consciousness of the Body comes from the enjoyment of Christ. Witness Lee, Life-study of Colossians, p. 491In Col. 2:19 Paul tells us of holding the Head; he makes a switch from Christ (in v. 17) to the Head.

This shows us that the more we enjoy and experience Christ as the reality of all positive things, this One is the Head of the Body, and our enjoyment of Him causes us to become Body-conscious.

If we enjoy Christ continually and in a genuine way, we will not remain individualistic; rather, the more we enjoy Christ, the more we are conscious of the Body of Christ.

It is not normal for us to enjoy the Lord during the day and yet neglect the meetings of the church, which is His Body, for the all-inclusive, extensive Christ we enjoy and hold to is the Head of the Body, and He always reminds us of the Body.

Even if our environment doesn’t allow us to attend all the meetings, inwardly we have the sense that our whole inner being is with the saints in the church meeting, for the Christ we enjoy is the Head and we are His Body.

The more we enjoy Christ and take Him as the reality of all positive things, the more we have a desire to meet with the saints as the Body of Christ.

But when we fail to contact the Lord for a period of time, we will automatically neglect the church life, and we will lose interest in the meetings of the church.

When we neglect our enjoyment of Christ, when we don’t contact the Lord in a regular way, we open a door for the enemy to come in and cause us to ignore the saints and even become critical of the other members of the Body.

But when we begin to enjoy the Lord, this door that we opened to the enemy will gradually close; if we are constant in our enjoyment of Christ, the door will be completely shut.

When we enjoy the Lord and hold Him as the Head, instead of criticizing the saints and the church, we will praise the Lord for the church life and we will testify how much we love the church.

Hallelujah, the precious One whom we enjoy as the reality of our food, our drink, our breath, our covering, our life, our light, and our dwelling place is the Head of the Body!

The very Christ who is the reality of all positive things is the One who is the Head of the Body; thus, to hold the Head is simply to enjoy Christ as the reality of all positive things — Col. 2:19. Since the Christ we enjoy as our everything is the Head of the Body, the more we enjoy Him, the more we become Body-conscious. This indicates that the enjoyment of Christ is not an individualistic matter but a Body matter — cf. Eph. 3:8; 4:15-16. The more we enjoy Christ, the more we love the other members of the Body — Col. 1:4, 8. Because Christ’s headship is in resurrection (v. 18), the enjoyment of Christ spontaneously brings us into resurrection and saves us from our natural being. 2019 Thanksgiving Conference, outline 4Our enjoyment and experience of Christ are not individualistic; rather, it is for the Body, in the Body, and unto the building up of the Body.

May we not seek to enjoy Christ apart from the Body but may we realize that our enjoyment and experience of Christ as the reality of all positive things is in the Body and for the Body, for we are members of the Body and the One we enjoy is the Head of the Body!

The more we genuinely enjoy Christ, the more we love the other members of the Body.

But if we enjoy the Lord and we neglect the meetings of the church or we become critical of the saints, our enjoyment of Him is not genuine; this shows that we need to deal with our heart and exercise our spirit so that we may enjoy Him and hold Him as the Head.

The enjoyment of Christ causes us to love everyone in the church life – even those whom we find difficult to love, even they are lovable, dear, and precious to us when we enjoy Christ and hold Him as the Head!

Actually, the church and the saints remain the same – it’s only our attitude that changes; when we don’t enjoy Christ continually, we may despise certain ones in the church, but when we’re supplied with Christ and thus hold Him as the Head, we love Him and we love all the members of the Body!

Lord Jesus, we hold You as the Head and we enjoy You as the reality of all positive things. Thank You Lord for putting us in the Body; we are members of the Body, and together we hold You as the Head and receive the rich supply coming from You. Oh Lord, we open to enjoy You as the reality of all positive things, and we hold You as the Head! Praise You Lord for all the saints as the members of the Body of Christ! How we love You, Lord, and how we love to meet with the saints, our co-partakers of Christ, the ones who have Christ living in them!

Holding the Head by Enjoying Christ as the Reality of all Positive Things

There’s a connection in Col. 2:19 with the previous verses; it is incredible what the extensiveness of Christ experienced by our taking Him as the reality of all the positive things accomplishes for us and for God’s economy.

Christ is the body of all the shadows (Col. 2:17) and He is the Head (v. 19). By our taking Christ as the reality of all positive things, we hold Him as the Head in our experience.

If we don’t do this, however, He is not preeminent in our personal universe, we are not holding Him as the Head, and He is not Head in practicality to us, for we are not holding Him.

But holding to truth in love, we may grow up into Him in all things, who is the Head, Christ, out from whom all the Body, being joined together and being knit together through every joint of the rich supply and through the operation in the measure of each one part, causes the growth of the Body unto the building up of itself in love. Eph. 4:15-16To hold the Head is to take Christ and enjoy Him as the reality of all the positive things; this is a great matters.

May we all learn to hold the Head by enjoying Christ continually as the reality of all positive things.

When we hold Christ as the Head, we receive the supply from Him; as the Body receiving the supply from the Head – which we receive by holding Him as the reality of all the positive things – we start to have a feeling not just for ourselves but for our fellow members in the Body, and they become beautiful to us.

As we hold Christ as the Head, we are concerned for the Body, we have empathy and compassion, and we love the saints and are Body-conscious.

Becoming conscious of the Body of Christ is not something merely tutorial; it derives from the supply coming from the Head, by our taking Christ as the reality of all positive things.

In Eph. 3:8 we see that the gospel of the riches of Christ is given to me for you; this means that as we hold Christ as the Head, we receive the supply from Him, and this supply is to us for the Body.

The supply coming from Christ, the Head, is the unsearchable riches of Christ, accessed by us taking Him as the reality of all the positive things.

As we hold to the truth in love, we grow up into Him in all things, who is the Head, Christ (Eph. 4:15-16); this means that the building up of the Body also issues from our holding the Head, that is from our enjoying Christ as the reality of all positive things.

So the Body is built up as a result of us all taking Christ as the reality of all positive things, which is our holding Him as the Head, out from whom we have the supply, we function in the Body, and we build up the Body.

And because Christ’s headship is in resurrection (Col. 2:18), the enjoyment of Christ spontaneously brings us into resurrection and saves us from our natural being.

In our experience we are learning that even though we have opinions, when we enjoy Christ our opinions don’t matter that much, because we’re too busy enjoying Him and taking Him as the reality of all positive things, so we don’t express our opinion.

As we hold the Head by enjoying Christ as the reality of all positive things, we are brought through death into resurrection, and we are built up as the Body of Christ.

Lord Jesus, we take You as the reality of all positive things so that we may hold the Head, receive the supply from the Head, and be built up as the Body of Christ in reality. Thank You Lord for this privilege of holding You as the Head so that we may be supplied with the unsearchable riches of Christ and we may build up the Body of Christ. Hallelujah, we are members in the Body, we hold Christ as the Head, and He becomes to us the reality of all positive things in our experience so that we may minister Christ to others for their building up! Amen, Lord, grant us to have such a consciousness of the Body as we enjoy You and experience You daily!
